Skin Concerns -

Benign Lesions

Benign skin lesions are non-cancerous growths or marks that can appear anywhere on the skin. Common examples include skin tags, warts, milia, seborrhoeic keratoses, cherry angiomas (small red spots), and harmless pigmented patches. While these lesions are medically harmless, they can sometimes catch on clothing, cause irritation, or affect confidence.

The NHS does not usually offer removal for benign lesions when they are considered cosmetic. At Clear Skin Clinic, we provide safe and effective removal options for clients who wish to have them treated privately.

We recommend a consultation so our specialist can assess the lesion and advise on the most appropriate treatment method, which may include Cryotherapy (freezing), Electrolysis (heat), or Laser. Consultations start from £20.

For clients who would like added reassurance or wish to avoid long GP waiting times, we also offer an off-site skin lesion diagnostic service. This allows suspicious or uncertain lesions to be reviewed by a medical specialist before proceeding with treatment, giving you peace of mind alongside the convenience of faster access.

Cryotherapy Skin Lesion Removal

Cryotherapy (freezing)

Cryotherapy works by applying a controlled jet of extreme cold directly to the lesion, freezing the unwanted tissue without harming the surrounding skin. The treated area then naturally heals, leaving clearer, smoother skin.

This treatment is highly effective for large skin tags, warts, verrucae, common moles and other benign lesions. It offers a quick, minimally invasive solution for clients who may no longer be able to access removal through the NHS when these concerns are considered cosmetic.

Cryotherapy is a fast procedure, with most treatments taking just a few minutes depending on the size and number of lesions. Downtime is minimal, although the skin may appear red, blistered, or scabbed for a short time before healing naturally.

Most lesions require only a single session, although some may need more than one treatment for complete removal.

Treatment Time:

Usually 5–20 minutes depending on the size and number of lesions treated

Downtime:

Minimal — the area may appear red, blister, or form a small scab, which naturally heals within 7–28 days

Recommended Frequency:

Often a single session is sufficient, although some lesions may need more than one treatment for full removal

Electrolysis (heat)

At Clear Skin Clinic, we use advanced electrolysis technology to safely and effectively remove certain benign skin lesions. This treatment works by applying a fine probe to the lesion, delivering a small amount of heat energy to cauterise and remove the unwanted tissue. The surrounding skin remains unaffected, and the treated area naturally heals in the days that follow.

Electrolysis is particularly effective for removing multiple small skin tags in one session, making it a quick and convenient choice for clients who wish to have several lesions treated at once.

Treatment Time:

15–30 minutes depending on the number of lesions treated

Downtime:

Minimal — the skin may appear red or form small scabs which heal naturally within 7–10 days

Recommended Frequency:

Often a single treatment is enough, though some lesions may require more than one session

Laser Skin Lesion Removal

Laser technology provides a safe and precise way to remove certain benign skin lesions with minimal discomfort and downtime. By targeting unwanted tissue or pigment while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected, laser treatment offers an effective solution for cosmetic lesion removal.

This method is particularly effective for treating seborrhoeic keratoses (raised, wart-like growths) and pigmented lesions such as age spots, sun spots, and harmless areas of excess pigmentation. The laser energy breaks down the lesion or pigment, allowing the skin to heal and clear naturally, leaving a smoother, more even appearance.

Treatment Time:

15–30 minutes depending on the number and size of lesions treated

Downtime:

Minimal — the skin may appear red, darken, or form a small scab, which heals naturally within 7–14 days

Recommended Frequency:

Many lesions can be treated in a single session, although some may require more than one
