Dermal Filler
Dissolving
If you’re unhappy with the look or feel of your dermal filler – whether it was placed elsewhere or you simply feel it no longer suits you – dermal filler dissolving offers a safe, targeted way to “reset” and return closer to your natural features.
Using an enzyme called hyaluronidase, this treatment breaks down unwanted hyaluronic acid (HA) filler so your body can naturally clear it. Filler dissolving can help to:
-
Soften overfilled or “overdone” areas
-
Correct lumps, bumps or uneven texture
-
Tidy up migration (filler that has spread or moved)
-
Create a clean base for a more natural, balanced result in future
What to Expect After Dissolving (Including the Psychological Side)
It’s completely normal for dissolving to feel like a big step emotionally. If you’ve been used to seeing a plumper or more contoured version of yourself, the change can take a little getting used to.
In the first few days, the treated area may:
-
Look flatter or more deflated than you’re used to
-
Appear a bit puffy or uneven due to temporary swelling
-
Feel slightly tender or “different” when you look in the mirror
This can be a shock at first, but it is temporary. As swelling settles and your tissues adjust, your own natural plumpness begins to return. Over the next 2–4 weeks, the skin and underlying tissues gradually find a new, more natural baseline.
We will always talk you through this process so you know what’s normal and when to get in touch if you’re worried.
When Can Filler Be Replaced?
For the best, most predictable results, it’s important not to rush straight back in with more filler.
-
We recommend waiting a minimum of 4 weeks after dissolving before considering any new filler.
-
Although some practitioners may re-inject sooner, studies and clinical experience suggest that waiting at least 4 weeks allows:
-
The hyaluronidase to fully finish working
-
Any swelling or inflammation to completely settle
-
The tissues to become stable and ready for carefully planned replacement filler
-
This waiting period can feel challenging, but it is a key part of achieving a safe, natural and long-lasting result. During this time we can review your progress, support you emotionally if needed, and plan any future treatment when everything is settled.
Treatment Time:
Approximately 60–90 minutes
(Patch test required at least 48 hours before your first treatment.)
Downtime:
Minimal. You may experience swelling, redness, or bruising for 24–72 hours. In some cases, the area can feel tender or look uneven for up to 7–10 days as the product breaks down and the tissues settle.
Recommended Frequency:
Number of sessions will depend on:
-
How much filler is present
-
The type and density of filler
-
How your tissues respond to hyaluronidase
Some clients achieve their desired result in one session, while others may need a small course of treatments, typically spaced a few weeks apart.
